ABOUT UNBREAKABLE JOURNEYS: EMPOWERING MESOTHELIOMA SURVIVORS
A MISSION BORN FROM EXPERIENCE
On July 18, 2023, Shane Smith was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called mesothelioma. This was his second cancer diagnosis. Over the next six months, he endured chemotherapy and underwent HIPEC/CRS surgery, often referred to as the “Mother of All Surgeries”. During this difficult journey, Shane found solace and strength in the mesothelioma community—a small but resilient group of patients, caregivers, and survivors. Supporting and encouraging those affected by mesothelioma became his newfound passion.
Shane’s connection with the meso community continues to provide him with joy and strength, especially in moments of hardship. Unbreakable Journeys was developed as a platform dedicated to those facing similar challenges.
Before establishing Unbreakable Journeys, Shane had a diverse career, working in industries such as technology, healthcare, construction, and nonprofits. After spending a decade working in Ethiopia and Kenya, he returned to Texas in 2018, where he currently resides with his family and their beloved cat, Walt.
